One year later: BURDENED WITH GLORIOUS UPDATE
about 4 years ago – Fri, Apr 24, 2020 at 04:22:13 PM

Hello, PDX Broadsides fans!!!!! Happy Launch Anniversary!

Friends, HELLO, it's been a wild year, and we're just talking about April. Womp womp.

Also, the Kickstarter for Relatable Content launched one actual year ago yesterday (HOW IS POSSIBLE)!!!

  • Where have we been since our last update?
  • THE COMMENTARY, YOU CAN HAS!
  • Free music?!? Not for much longer!
  • Cancelled cons, internet mayhem: what are we doing now in this hellscape? We got shows!
  • A NEW CONCERT SERIES: AnthSOLOgy!

Since the last time you saw these intrepid heroes...

At our last update, we were about to go on tour. Friends, in October we went, and it was one of the best trips I've ever had. Roadtripping and making music with and for our friends was nothing short of incredible.

We want to sincerely thank all the folks who played with us and have become nerd family to us: our labelsister Juliana Finch, Sarah Donner, Alyssa Yeager (Rhiannon's Lark), and of course, our band besties Misbehavin' Maidens. Special thanks to the McCradys and Juliana Finch for sharing their homes with us on the road, the fantastic venues, Kate and Joel for setting us up in Annandale, the Haygoods for house concerting us in NC.

To everyone who came out to see these shows and told your friends, you are amazing. We had a weird and wonderful time and we hope that very soon, when the dust settles, we can do this again. You made these shows possible and we want to see you all while we keep bringing you music about things we love...when it's safe to do so. <3

THE TOUR AFTERMATH:

We came back to Portland to do an epic homecoming show with Kielen King and Rad Max, then we did All The Things at OryCon, an online holiday show including songs we'd never even rehearsed, and read a fake episode of The Mandalorian for Spec Script's 3rd Anniversary Show (it will be eventually uploaded here, but you should check out the other episodes because they're HILARIOUS).

And this excellent ALL-COVERS show we did by special request!

Then the world exploded. But it was fun while it lasted.

Commentary is LIVE!

BackerKit finally let us upload the commentary today because, it turns out, it was too big. Even after zipping. Even shrinking the format. We had to do some finangling so you got everything and it still sounds good. YOU HAVE IT NOW. Hear what we had to say about the songs on Relatable Content!

We're going to listen to it, too, because we already forgot what we said. We hope we sound smart.

FREE MUSIC?!?

If you follow us on social media, you probably know that we've been offering our entire Bandcamp collection as Pay-What-You-Will for about a month now...yes, that even means free. We're turning back on regular prices sometime in the next 12-24 hours. We haven't decided when exactly but it's time because airlines only refunded our tickets in "credits" and Holly and I are running low on boxed wine. But if there's a track or album you haven't heard yet (like our first never-in-print album Take Everything, or that one EP where I do a rap...NO, YOU'LL HAVE TO FIND IT YOURSELF), hop to it.

So...what are we doing now?

We live in Oregon, where Governor Brown has wisely chosen to put us under Stay At Home guidelines. All three of us are abiding by that, so our interactions have been entirely online from our separate homes. It's been rough. I miss my band besties and our weekly rehearsal nights. Drinking wine and yelling over the internet is great but it's not quite the same.

We're finishing our song commissions from the Kickstarter and have already sent out a few to very happy fans. We've got the EP, Relatable AF, that we're starting to track, and Bill Beats is working on those remixes!

We were supposed to be performing at FilKONtario today, and KeyCon in May. Both of those cons have cancelled, but both are offering online content!

We're performing at FilKONtariNO Saturday 4/25 from 2-2:30 PM PDT (5 PM EDT)! We'll be on a Zoom feed for FKO, and that will get streamed to their YouTube and FB. To be in on the Zoom, check the FKO webpage for the link tomorrow!

We will be doing SOMETHING online for KeyCon, May 15-17. What that is yet, we don't know, but we WILL.

AnthSOLOgy

As I said up above, the three of us haven't seen each other in person for coming up on two months, and we're not alone. Lots of bands that usually play together currently can't. So what happens when you're stuck at home and suddenly a solo act?

Enter AnthSOLOgy, a place for solo artists to each play two new songs and chat! Each weekly episode is an hour and features new people every week. It's Saturdays at 4 PM PDT, except this week due to FilKONtariNO. Catch us live next Saturday, 5/2, with Metricula, Sara Depp, and Shawna Jacques!

In conclusion...

We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and well. This is a strange and unexpected time we find ourselves in. Whether you are essential, new to working from home, suddenly unemployed, juggling work and homeschooling, stuck with too many people or not enough...we have felt all of those things with you, and we are thinking of you. Those feelings, make 'em art. We did. And we'll sing them to you tomorrow, as solos, best we can. We're all doing the best we can.

Be well. Wash your hands. Stay home.

With love,

Dr. Jess (and Holly and Christian)

LET THE TOUR RUMPUS BEGIN!
over 4 years ago – Mon, Sep 23, 2019 at 07:04:25 PM

Faithful and amazing backers, do we have updates for you.

First: we've got an online show this weekend (streaming live from Dr. Jess' parents' house)! Get a taste of what's coming next week, becaaaaaaaause:

IT'S TOUR TIME! (Please say you're coming and tell your friends to come too)

Coming to the East Coast, please teach us how to play Uno correctly

We leave for the East Coast in 10 days (!!1!). We are beyond excited to be going on this glorious tour, thanks to you. You can see all the FB events in one outlined tour, or follow below for the haps for each show!

10/4 - RALEIGH with Juliana Finch (our Doubleclicks Records labelmate!). This is a house concert and therefore A) tickets must be bought in advance to get the address and B) has a limited capacity, so don't delay in getting those tix right here. There's also a Kegerator at this house with beer by donation. :D

10/5 - ANNANDALE, VA. This is a super rad house concert where the hosts have had Sarah Donner, The Doubleclicks, and many more come play, so you know this is going to be a great time. Again, you must RSVP in advance for address and capacity, so hop to it directly here!

10/6 - GREENBELT, MD with Misbehavin' Maidens! We'll be at The New Deal Cafe for sets with our favorite DC foursome. No advance tickets or cover, RSVPing and tipping highly encouraged!

10/9 - BROOKLYN, NY with Rhiannon's Lark and Sarah Donner! Nerdy pub The Way Station has got your geek music party on lock. This is another tips-only night, so bring some cash and enjoy the show!

10/11 - WEST KINGSTON, RI. It's Lagerfest at Shaidzon Beer Company, where we'll be making nerdy music all afternoon. They have special beers on and we'll take your tips!

10/12 - SOMERVILLE, MA with Sarah Donner! VERY excited for this show at the beautiful ONCE Lounge in Somerville, a Boston suburb, which is also hosting HONK!, a brass band festival. Make a weekend of it, but do get your tix for our show right here, right now.

Then we return and do a PORTLAND HOMECOMING SHOW on 10/19, with Kielen King and Rad Max! (Two members of Rad Max used to be in Thundering Asteroids, so we're excited to work with our old friends again!) Cover is $3 for that show and promises to be an absolute blast.

Fulfillment Update

All digital and physical rewards have long been delivered, EXCEPT as outlined below. If you're missing CDs, downloads, pins, anything, please contact us at [email protected] ASAP.

IN PROGRESS:

  • Commentary track: ETA late October post-tour
  • Bill Beats x PDXBs remix EP: in progress! Bill has finished one and is working on the other four right now!
  • Relatable AF (new dirty EP): hopefully by Christmas if we can all stay well at the same time while we're all in Portland...
  • Custom songs: we spent some time writing while together at Dragon Con and the tour means more writing time, yay! We have a couple done save recording, so stay tuned for these.
  • Brunch and Hot Seat: BRUNCH BACKERS, when we return, it's time for some harvest fall-time pumpkin pancakes. Hot Seaters, we fulfilled the first round of RSVPs and we've got more shows ahead. In both cases, we'll be in touch about dates.

THANK YOU!

Thank you again so much for your support and making Relatable Content (the album and tour!) come to life. We hope to see many of you over the coming weeks!

SHIPPING AWAY!

On Tuesday evening, we had a packing party, and we were PURE MACHINE. They will be winging their way to you very shortly!!!

If you are in the US, you should have received a tracking number already, keep an eye out for those goods.

If you didn't fill out your backer survey, we can't ship your rewards because we don't know where you live. Go fill it out and we'll send them to you as soon as possible.

Before the onslaught.
Before the onslaught.
Behold the aftermath.
Behold the aftermath.

An apology to our digital only backers who got asked for a shipping address: we thought we'd unchecked all those boxes but for some of you it asked anyway. We're sorry about that!

Physical backers: WE WANNA SEE YOU EXCITED OVER YOUR STUFF! Tag us in everything and we'll probably repost it because your excitement makes us excited! <3 <3 <3

RELATABLE CONTENT is out! Plus shipping updates!
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Jul 03, 2019 at 04:04:28 PM

Relatable Content is Officially RELEASED!

As of yesterday, you can find Relatable Content IN ALL OF THE PLACES! Backers $10+ received their digital copies last week, and now the general public gets to hear what you do! All sales this week count toward our possibility of making it on the Billboard charts, and we think that'd be really, really neat.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

1) Listen and enjoy the heck out of it! Then tell your friends using #RelatableContent, and you can share any of these links to where they can get the album: on Bandcamp, iTunes, or Amazon! If you want to stream it first, you can listen to each track free on Bandcamp, or you can find us on Spotify if you'd like to add us to your favorite playlists.

2) Tell US what you think of it! We'd love to feature some of your words on our website and social media. Comment below, or tweet us (@PDXBroadsides) or leave us a comment on our Facebook post. Tag it #RelatableContent!

If you have a blog or a podcast (or you personally know someone who does who loves nerdy music about all kinds of fandoms and feelings), have them get in touch, we'd love to chat with them!

Great, PDXBs, but when do I get my STUFF?

GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE: we have all physical rewards in hand now, so we're starting packing next week and should have things shipped out shortly thereafter! Your goods are incoming very shortly! (For everyone except the few of you who haven't answered your BackerKit survey yet...if that's you, hop to it today!)

We haven't locked addresses yet because we had a delay on getting our mailers shipped to us (irony), but they'll get locked on Monday, 7/8. If you moved in the last couple weeks, let us know.

Thank you again so much for your support in making this album (and our upcoming tour, more details coming soon!) happen! If you're looking for more nerdy awesome music, our friend (and 2017 tour mate) Leslie Hudson is Kickstarting an album and some beautiful faerie-inspired art now and she's just over halfway there, check her out!

To infinity and beyond,

The PDXBs
